Jalen Rose Scholarship Fund

• Five $10,000 scholarships
• Student must reside in Detroit and begin college in the fall of 2008
• Citizen of the US.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 to apply

Tom Joyner Foundation 2008 Full Ride Scholarship

The Tom Joyner Foundation will award one scholarship to a student entering a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the fall of 2008. The recipient will receive full-tuition waivers and a stipend to cover room, board, and books. Eligible students must:


• Be a citizen of the United States
• Attend a United States High School (with expected graduation of Spring 2008) and have at least a 3.0 GPA by the end of their junior year.
• Minimum High School GPA 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale)
• Minimum SAT 1300 or ACT 28.
• Have applied and been accepted to an HBCU by May 1, 2008.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities by participation in community service, extracurricular, or other organizations.
• Finalists will complete an interview with the selection committee in March, 2008.

SAE - Detroit -Technical Scholarship (Society of Automotive Engineers)

• Two $3500.00 renewable scholarships
• Need to be a child or grandchild of a current SAE Detroit Section member.
• Citizen of the US.
• Intend to enroll in a 2-4 year engineering or science program
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 and 1200 SAT or 28 ACT composite score.
• Demonstrate financial need.

McKelvey Foundation Entreprenurial Scholarship Award

• $40,000 scholarship ($10,000 per year)
• Attend a 4-year college or university within the 50 United States
• Own and operate a business for at least 1 year; have at least 1 paid employee
• Submit an online application.
• Online application deadline is January 15, 2008

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP (in association with US News & World Report magazine)

• $10, 000 and $25,000 scholarships;
• US citizen or legal resident; plan to attend an accredited 2 -year or 4-year college or university;
• Demonstrate ambition and self-drive;
• Recommended by an unrelated adult.
• The first 12,000 application received, which have met the postmarked deadline of December 15, 2007 will be considered.

BURGER KING SCHOLARS PROGRAM

• $1,000.00 scholarship;
• Plan to enroll in an accredited 2/4-year college, university, vocational/technical school;
• GPA of 2.5 or higher;
• Work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (although you do NOT have to be employed by Burger King restaurants)
• Community service; financial need.

• $1,000 renewable;

RON BROWN SCHOLAR PROGRAM

• For academically talented, highly motivated African American seniors; US citizen or hold permanent resident visa cards;
• Awards totaling $40,000 ($10,000 per year);
• There are 2 application deadlines. Applications postmarked by November 1st deadline are considered for the Ron Brown Program and a limited number of other scholarships. January 9th, 2008 deadline will only be considered for the Ron Brown Program;

GOLDEN CORRAL® MILITARY APPRECIATION ESSAY CONTEST

• Persons 13 years of age and older, who have served or whose parents have served in the US Armed Forces, are invited to submit an essay conveying the pride they have in their parent’s or their own Military service as well as share their educational aspirations.
• Six winners will be awarded cash prizes to further their education.
• There are two age brackets: 1) ages 13-17 and 2) ages 18 and older
• The two Grand Prize winners (one in each bracket) will receive $5,000 cash, first place winners (one in each bracket) will receive a $2,500 cash prize, and the third place winners will receive a cash prize of $1,000.

• The High School Scholarship Program is designed to assist high school students of Hispanic heritage obtain a bachelor's degree.
